INFRASTRUCTURE development at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Housing Development continues to progress in phases, with the Ministry of Housing-Central Housing and Planning Authority moving forward with another major component of its planned road network upgrades.
According to the Ministry, the latest phase will see construction of roads within the Young Professional Housing Scheme and the section east of the Young Professional homes, as the community continues to experience rapid growth and housing construction.
“Minister of Housing, Hon. Collin Croal, conducted a follow-up visit to the community on Tuesday along with CH&PA engineers Mr. Orlando Arno and Mr. Esan Barry and other officials. The Minister outlined the scope of works and the government’s commitment to ensuring the continued development of the expanding housing scheme,” the Ministry said in a post.
The Minister noted that the first phase of the scheme’s main access road has already been completed. However, with more residents moving into the area and housing construction progressing rapidly, further infrastructure investments are being implemented as part of the community’s overall development plan.
“It’s a massive housing scheme that we’re developing,” Minister Croal stated. “As a result of persons starting to live in the area, as well as ongoing construction, we have to mix the dynamics of the road […]This will bring great relief to the residents of LBI, especially those who have vehicles.”
A key component of the infrastructure development is the construction of more than 5,500 metres of asphaltic concrete roads along the two parallel main access roads serving Phases One and Two of the Young Professional Housing area. Grading works have already commenced.
To facilitate these works, contracts valued at approximately $1 billion have been awarded to 23 contractors across 32 lots, covering and works will stretch up to the second bridge within the area.
In addition to the main access roads, cross streets within the Young Professional Housing Scheme will be upgraded to concrete roads. Grading for these roads will begin immediately while contractors work on the main roads. Construction of the concrete cross streets is expected to commence within the next month and will also extend up to the second bridge.
Road upgrades are also scheduled to begin within the next few days in the section located east of the Young Professional Housing Scheme, further expanding the scope of development throughout the community.
Minister Croal explained that while recent inclement weather temporarily delayed the start of works contractors are expected to move forward with works soon. He further noted that the anticipated transition to the El Niño weather pattern in the coming weeks is expected to provide more favourable conditions, allowing contractors to accelerate construction efforts.
The Minister also appealed to residents for continued patience and understanding as the large-scale development programme progresses.
He explained that the simultaneous construction of homes and infrastructure throughout the scheme requires the constant movement of heavy-duty trucks and equipment, which can contribute to temporary deterioration of existing roads.
