WOMEN entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners are being encouraged to participate in the third edition of the “I’m a Boss” Businesswoman Breakfast and Masterclass, an initiative aimed at equipping women with practical tools, mentorship and networking opportunities to strengthen their businesses and professional development.
The event, organised by Ultra-Corporate Events, is scheduled for June 25 at Cara Lodge in Georgetown and will bring together women from various sectors for a day of business training, leadership development and peer engagement.
Founder and Managing Director of Ultra-Corporate Events, Ruth McKenzie, said the initiative was born out of concerns that women often have fewer opportunities to access business-focused training and empowerment programmes.
According to McKenzie, the event is designed to go beyond the traditional conference format by creating an interactive environment where participants can connect with experienced business leaders and learn directly from their journeys.
“We didn’t want it to be just another conference where people sit and listen to speakers and then leave,” she explained. “The breakfast allows participants to network and build relationships before moving into a hands-on masterclass.”
The programme will feature sessions focused on business growth strategies, leadership development and the mental resilience required to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship. Facilitators will share lessons from their own experiences in building and sustaining successful businesses.
The masterclass is open to women at all stages of their entrepreneurial journey, including those with established businesses and individuals seeking to launch their first venture.
Organisers have limited participation to 50 attendees to encourage meaningful interaction and provide opportunities for participants to engage directly with facilitators, ask questions and discuss challenges they face in their businesses and personal development.
The registration fee is $20,000 and includes breakfast, lunch and access to all training sessions. McKenzie noted that Ultra-Corporate Events also maintains contact with participants after the event through follow-up engagements and professional networking opportunities.
The “I’m a Boss” initiative was first launched in 2017 and featured several prominent women leaders and professionals. Following a hiatus, the programme returned in 2022 and has continued to evolve as a platform focused on supporting female entrepreneurship and leadership.
McKenzie, who established Ultra-Corporate Events in 2013 after returning to Guyana from overseas, said her passion for event management grew from earlier experiences in pageantry and event coordination. What began as a company focused primarily on social events later expanded into corporate event management as demand increased.
Over the years, Ultra-Corporate Events has grown alongside Guyana’s expanding business environment. McKenzie believes the increasing number of conferences, corporate functions and public events reflects growing opportunities within the events management industry.
She noted that as businesses and organisations continue to host more events, there is a growing need for skilled event planners and logistics professionals in Guyana.
For McKenzie, however, the primary goal of the upcoming masterclass remains empowering women to pursue their ambitions and learn from others who have overcome setbacks and achieved success.
She encouraged women to take advantage of the opportunity to learn from experienced entrepreneurs, network with peers and gain practical knowledge that can help them advance their businesses and careers.
