A 33-year-old miner of Paramakatoi Village, Region Eight, is in police custody after ranks allegedly discovered ammunition in his possession during a joint operation in the Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve.
Police said the discovery was made on Thursday, June 11, 2026, during an exercise conducted in the Supuruni River area.
According to investigators, ranks stopped and searched a silver aluminium boat occupied by six persons.
During a search of the miner’s personal belongings, officers reportedly found a haversack containing a white plastic bag with four live 12-gauge cartridges.
The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Annai Police Station along with the ammunition. The cartridges were lodged pending further investigations.
The suspect remains in police custody assisting with the investigation.
