THE Ministry of Housing and Water, through the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), has engaged several international law enforcement agencies, including INTERPOL and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as efforts continue to locate and hold contractor Omar Malik accountable over allegations linked to the failed construction of the Young Professionals Homes.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Ministry said it remains committed to pursuing “all available legal, administrative, and international avenues” to ensure justice for affected homeowners and families impacted by the actions of Malik and his company, DreamVu Homes.

According to the Ministry, concerns surrounding Malik’s failure to fulfil contractual obligations have been under active investigation for an extended period, well before the matter became the subject of recent public discussion.

The Ministry noted that several public notices were issued through social media platforms and national newspapers, including notices published in August 2025, calling on Malik to report to the Ministry to address outstanding financial matters.

After those efforts reportedly failed to secure compliance, formal reports were submitted to the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

The Ministry further disclosed that following Malik’s departure from Guyana, its Enforcement and Compliance Department escalated the matter internationally by sharing relevant information with a number of regional and global security agencies.

Among the agencies now engaged are INTERPOL, the FBI, and the Caribbean Community Implementation Agency for Crime and Security (CARICOM IMPACS), along with other international authorities.

“Due to Mr. Malik’s departure from the jurisdiction, the Ministry’s Enforcement and Compliance Department has formally engaged regional and international security organisations. Relevant information has been shared for immediate review and cross-border action,” the Ministry stated.

Officials said they have maintained close contact with affected homeowners, and continue to explore lawful avenues to assist those impacted, while supporting ongoing investigations and efforts aimed at securing resolutions.

The Ministry acknowledged that the situation has caused significant distress for affected families but maintained that every effort has been made to respond swiftly and responsibly.

It also rejected suggestions that authorities had been inactive in addressing the matter, describing such claims as inaccurate and dismissive of the work already undertaken.

“Groundless assertions that regulatory bodies have remained passive are not only entirely false, but they also disregard the extensive, multi-agency legal framework currently operating to apprehend the individual in question,” the Ministry stated.

The Ministry said it has exercised due diligence throughout the process, acting in accordance with legal procedures and cooperating fully with relevant authorities.

It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability and the protection of citizens’ interests as investigations continue.
