GHB Diamond Jubilee Cup….

THE Guyana Hockey Board slugged off action on Thursday in their long-awaited Diamond Jubilee Cup competition at the National Stadium, Providence.

The tournament, which was originally set to run off last month as part of the country’s independence celebration was delayed due to weather and other activities at the stadium.

The action officially got underway with a clash in the women’s first division category.

GCC Elite women got things off with a 10-nil drubbing of Hikers ladies in a lopsided affair.

GCC’s Gabriella Xavier, Rebecca Ferreria, Abosaide Cadogan, and Princessa Wilkie scored doubles in the win.

Next, Old Fort Top Form then defeated Saints 4-2.

Old Fort was he first to the back of the net with goals in the 20th and 25th minutes off the tick of Nkosi Saul and Shaquon Favorite.

Saints Aaron and Abraham would come to the fore, scoring in the 28th minute to make it 2-1.

Goals followed from Yonnick Norton and Jael Gaskin as they extended their lead to 4-1.

Saints’ Shakeem Fausette would pull one back in the 55 minutes, but by that stage Old Fort already had an unassailable lead.

They would close out the contest 4-2 for the victory.

The first division league is set to conclude on Monday with the finals in the men’s and women’s categories.
