A 25-year-old labourer from St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, has been remanded to prison after being charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.
Junior Thomas appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, June 11, 2026.
Thomas was charged with Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, contrary to Section 5(1)(a)(i) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Control) Act.
Police said he was arrested on Wednesday, June 10, after he was allegedly found in possession of three grams of cocaine.
The charge was read to Thomas, who pleaded not guilty. He was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned until August 12, 2026.
