A 54-year-old cattle owner has been charged with four counts of allowing animals to stray on public roads in East Bank Demerara communities.

Denesh Rohit of Garden of Eden appeared before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Friday, June 5, 2026, where the charges were read to him.

The charges allege that Rohit suffered animals to stray, contrary to Section 28(1)(a) of the Road Act, Chapter 51:01.

According to police, the offences were allegedly committed within the Prospect Young Professional Housing Scheme and Farm Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara.

Rohit pleaded not guilty to all four charges.

He was granted bail in the sum of $40,000 and the matter was adjourned until June 26, 2026.

The charges come amid continued concerns over stray livestock on public roadways, which authorities have repeatedly warned can pose serious risks to motorists and pedestrians.
