REGION Seven is set to benefit from a major upgrade in its security infrastructure, as the government has committed to deploying additional assets to strengthen policing across Bartica and the surrounding hinterland communities.
This was according to President Dr Irfaan Ali, who made the announcement during a cabinet outreach in the region during which he outlined a series of measures aimed at improving law enforcement capacity and public safety in the mining district.
Dr Ali indicated that the initiative will include the deployment of five additional All-Terrain Vehicles (ATVs), two boats, two pickup trucks, and other essential transport equipment for the Guyana Police Force operating in the region.
The investments are intended to improve mobility and response times in an area where river and road access pose logistical challenges for security operations.
“We have examined the request for support in transport infrastructure to fight crime,” President Ali said while adding that the government is committed to strengthening the operational capacity of the police in Region Seven.
Further to this, President Ali also noted that upgrades and repairs will be carried out at key police stations in Bartica and Aranka, as part of a broader effort to improve working conditions for law enforcement officers and enhance service delivery to residents.
Additionally, he noted that while there are police checkpoints constructed in two communities, new police stations will be built in Sherima and Kaikan.
“This is investment in quality of life for every segment of our public service and our population,” the President added.
Among the broader proposals outlined was the development of a multi-agency security and service facility at 14 Miles, which would bring together police, immigration, fire and other public services under one hub.
These measures, Dr Ali indicated, form part of a wider government strategy to ensure that security services are better equipped and more responsive to the needs of communities across Region Seven, particularly in mining and hinterland areas.
The Head of State emphasised that improved infrastructure and resources are key to strengthening public safety and ensuring that law enforcement agencies can effectively carry out their duties.
The security announcements were part of a wider set of interventions outlined during the government’s outreach.
A series of development initiatives has been rolled out in Region Seven to improve access to services and boost economic activity, among other things.
