Fisherman found dead in boat at Mahaica

POLICE are investigating the death of a 55-year-old fisherman who was found motionless in his boat at the 40 Feet Koker Dam, Unity Village, Mahaica, on Monday afternoon.
Dead is Stephen Ragbeer, also known as “Cannon,” of Lancaster, Unity Village.
Initial investigations revealed that Ragbeer owned a fishing boat which was routinely docked at the koker after his daily fishing trips.
Police said that sometime between 15:00 hrs and 16:00 hrs, the fisherman was informed that his vessel was taking in water and left to inspect it.
About 16:00 hrs, a report was made to the Mahaica Police Station that a man was seen lying motionless inside a boat at the location.
Ranks responded and discovered Ragbeer’s body in the vessel.
He was subsequently taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.
Police said an examination of the body revealed no visible marks of violence.
The body was later transferred to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
