RESIDENTS of Barabina Hill in Region One are now enjoying easier travel and improved connectivity following the completion of a major road upgrade in the community.

Some 1.4 kilometres of road were transformed from laterite to concrete roadway. In the past, the laterite road posed great challenges for residents, particularly during heavy rainfall.

According to the Ministry of Public Works, the upgraded thoroughfare now provides smoother and more reliable transportation within the community, and an improved quality of life for residents.

It is also expected to support greater mobility access to essential services, and contribute to the continued development of the Barabina Hill Village.

The project, which was supervised by the ministry’s Special Projects Unit (SPU), was implemented using a community participation model.

This approach directly engaged residents, and utilised village labour to foster community ownership while boosting the local economy.

Moreover, the upgrade forms part of the PPP/C government’s wider effort to improve infrastructure, and strengthen connectivity in communities across the country.

Speaking recently on the importance of infrastructure development, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali highlighted the transformative role of road projects in national development.

“The roads we are building connect not just communities but destinies,” the president said.

He also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the country’s rapid economic transformation delivers long-term benefits to all Guyanese. (DPI)
