Israel, Canada, but no sling shots to fight in Gaza and Lebanon

EACH day we hear about a new world order in which the world we knew ten years ago is gone, replaced by disregard for international laws and the sacred rules that govern relation between nations and disrespect for the cultures and nationalities that hold modern civilization together.

One of the chief reminders that the old order is gone is the Canadian Prime Minister. Canada is at serious loggerheads with the United States over tariffs so Prime Minister Carney is speaking out frequently about the new international disorder but somehow no one touches on the monster regime in Israel that the world has never seen before.

Before we move on, readers need to examine a news report in the Guardian of the UK for May 23, 2026. It is reported that when refugees from third countries seek refugee status from Canada from the US, Canadian immigration is violating international laws on asylum by delivering them to ICE agents at the US Border. The law requires that a family member must be present when the asylum request is made. But Canadian officials are ignoring the presence of these family members and are freezing the claimants into ICE custody.

Canada has a High Commissioner in Guyana that publicly addressed the Guyanese people. He told them that Guyana’s democracy belongs to the Guyanese people and therefore Guyanese must seek to get the Guyana Government to accept the report of the EU Election Observer Mission into Guyana’s 2025 election.

Recently, I did a column (Thursday, May 7, 2026, “A question for the Canadian High Commissioner to Guyana”) in which I pointed out about the injustice Canada did to the officials from the Palestine Football Federation. Canada denied them visas to attend a 2026 World Cup preparatory meeting. I am still to find out from the High Commissioner if democracy in Canada belongs to the Canadian people.

I have absolutely no objection to diplomats from foreigner counties based in Guyana, criticising actions of the Guyana Government. As I pointed out in that May 7 column, we in Guyana should welcome the criticism because it provides us with an opportunity to ask questions ourselves about democracy in the Western world.

I have not seen PM Carney of Canada and not one other Western leader stopped military exports to Israel. This is a rogue nation of a mere 8000 square miles (for the third time I ask the question on this page; why don’t Iran finish the job without harming the civilian population) that is committing genocide against the people in Gaza and Lebanon.

Israel has just announced that it is taking 70 percent of Gaza. Where are the voices of Canada and the EU? What Israel is currently doing in reducing Lebanon to rubbles as it has done in Gaza? Each day you hear about the war in Gaza and Lebanon. There are no wars in Gaza. There has never been a war in Gaza in the past two years. There is no war right now in Lebanon.

Even the narrowest definition of war would include combat engagement with navy, air force and ground troops. Israel flies jets over Gaza where there is no response and just bomb thousands of buildings with innocent civilians in them. The identical thing is happening in Lebanon. Israel cannot have a conventional naval and air force war. It doesn’t know how to.

This explains why Iran has destroyed a significant amount of Israel’s military buildings and physical infrastructure. But you do not read or see that from the Western media. Israel has locked out the media from those parts of Israel that have been extensively damaged. But there are no protests from Reporters Without Borders. This is the very Eurocentric organisation that goes around the Global South and without proper research, lectures countries in the Global South about press freedom.

Israel is taking a beating from the liberation movement named Hezbollah in southern Israel. Hezbollah is devastating southern Israel, but the Western media are not reporting on it. There is now a decisive shift in the confrontation with Israeli forces and Hezbollah.

The Lebanon-based militants are using fibre optic drones which Israel cannot detect and it is creating havoc in southern Israel. What is comforting to those that want to see Israel be defeated is that the drones are amazingly inexpensive – 300 US dollars for one. While Israel has destroyed Gaza and is destroying Lebanon, the world is hearing from the Western world about this changing world order. But in this new international setting, the West is giving billions in military aid to the Ukraine and not even a slingshot to Gaza and Lebanon.
