A 45-year-old labourer from Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast, has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to illegal firearm and ammunition possession charges.

Ramkaran Ramnauth appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, May 28, 2026, where the charges were read to him.

The charges were instituted under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.

Ramnauth pleaded guilty to both possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence.

He was sentenced to 24 months in prison on each charge and fined $50,000 on each count.

The court ordered that the prison terms run concurrently, meaning he will serve a total of 24 months behind bars.
