THE Ministry of Public Works has issued an ‘amended invitation for bids’ for infrastructural works at the new Parika Port facility and Supenaam stelling, with combined engineers’ estimates approaching $1 billion.
The ministry has invited contractors to submit bids for three separate projects aimed at upgrading transport and port infrastructure along key river-transport corridors, with improvements planned for the West Coast of Demerara and Region Two.
At the Parika Port Facility, the government is seeking contractors for the construction of a stelling-access road, waterfront drainage system and a parking apron for the northern section of the facility. The engineer’s estimate for the project is $499.04 million.
The ministry is also inviting bids for the supply and installation of vehicular scales, or weighbridges, for the project.
The Parika stelling is being converted into an international port facility at a cost of $4.5 billion; construction works on Phase 1 began in late 2025.
Meanwhile, under the Supenaam Stelling Upgrades initiative, bids are being requested for the construction of the northern extension to the Supenaam Ferry Stelling in Region Two. This project, according to an engineer’s estimate, is $489.52 million.
The projects form part of ongoing efforts by the government to modernise Guyana’s transport and maritime infrastructure as economic activity and inter-regional movement continue to expand.
The notice stated that bidding will be conducted through the National Competitive Bidding procedure outlined in the Procurement Act 2003.
Interested bidders can purchase bidding documents from the Transport and Harbours Department beginning May 19, 2026, for a non-refundable fee of $5,000.
The ministry said bidders must submit valid compliance certificates from the Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) and the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) as part of qualification requirements.
Bids are scheduled to be opened on June 10, 2026, at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) at Main and Urquhart Streets, Georgetown. [DPI]
