KENISHA Phillips was the star over the weekend, winning the 200 and 400 on
Saturday in the Guyana Overseas-Based Sports Association Annual Independence
Meet.
Other top winners were Jevon Roberts, Shamar Horatio and Attoya Harvey at the
event held at the National Track and Field Centre at Leonora.
Phillips stormed to an easy win in the women’s 200-metre dash in 24.10 seconds in front of Tonya Rawlins and Savannah Adams.
Phillips then dominated the field in the women’s 400 metres with a time of 56.72
Seconds. Krystal Morris and Delicia Wilkie took second and third place respectively.
Rawlins got her revenge in the 100 metres to win in 11.55 seconds, Savannah
Adams second and Tiffany Springer third.
While the men’s 200 metres saw Shamar Horatio pipping to the finish line in 20.26
seconds, Easton was in second place and Revon Williams in third position.
Horatio was not good enough to win the 100-metre finals, as Onesi Dunn ran 10.13
with Horatio finishing in 2nd place in 10.15 seconds and Akeem Steward third.
While middle-distance Supremo Ebo McNeil comfortably won the boys’ 1500
metres in 4 minutes 30.16 seconds, with Brave Jadel Liverpool running second and
Bryson McBean third.
McNeill then won the 800 metres in 1 minute 58.76 seconds, with Liverpool and
McBean finishing second and third.
The middle distance category saw the Guyana Defence Force’s Attoya Harvey
running a blistering 2:28.09 seconds to win the women’s 800 metres finals, beating
out Jelisa Wright and Malika Marquez.

She followed up later to win the women’s 1500 metres with Jelisa Wright with a
time of 5 minutes 05.09 seconds.
The boy’s 800 metres was won by Joshua Lam, who won it in 1 minute 56.95
seconds ahead of Jevon Roberts and Samuel Booker, who completed the top 3.
Roberts claimed the men’s 1500 metres win ahead of Odida Parkinson and Kosi
Thomas.
The country’s recent CARFITA medalist Olivia Solomon was the clear winner in
the girls’ 15-17 800 metres, winning in 2 minutes 14.56 seconds, outlasting Adanya
Glen and Ayesha Austin.
The men’s 400 dash was won by Revon Williams, who beat out Tishawn Easton and Quincy Marks.
The 4×400 metre relay for schools was won by Christianburg Wismar Secondary
School ahead of Mackenzie High and Tutorial High. Christianburg also won the
mixed 4×100 race.
The 4×400 for clubs was won by the Guyana Defence Force, with Running Brave
Athletics second and Team Nice third.
GDF also won the 4×100 relay in 43.39 seconds, beating out Police Progressive Youth Club and Running Brave.
The girls’ 1500 metres saw Adanya Glen edging Karen Lake and Joanna Anthon, winning it in 5 minutes 17.58 seconds.
The women’s long jump winner was Krystal Morris, with Yohance Bourne taking
the men’s long jump title.
Top athlete Leslain Baird claimed the men’s javelin throw with a throw of 72.85
metres.
