IN a continued effort to strengthen bilateral relations and deliver medical care to underserved regions, the 21st China Medical Team to Guyana successfully conducted a comprehensive medical outreach in the community of Waiakabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The initiative, organised at the invitation of the Waiakabra community, aimed to bridge the health-care gap for local residents, who frequently grapple with long-distance travel and limited local medical infrastructure to access basic health services.
A group of Chinese medical specialists was deployed to the location, offering free consultations across a wide spectrum of medical fields.
Residents had direct access to experts in General Surgery, orthopaedics, Internal Medicine, Burns and Plastic Surgery, Ophthalmology, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Anesthesia and Pain Management.

In addition to specialised physician consultations, the medical team provided free baseline health screenings, including blood pressure and blood-sugar monitoring, to help residents better understand their health status.
Ms Mohanlall, Waiakabra’s community representative, expressed profound gratitude and high praise for the China Medical Team’s prompt and compassionate response to the community’s needs.
“This outreach was a blessing for Waiakabra,” Ms Mohanlall noted. “Having a team of top-tier specialists come directly into our neighbourhood to provide free care and testing is something we are deeply grateful for. The community is highly appreciative of this humanitarian gesture.”
The deployment was meticulously planned under the leadership of the Medical Team Captain, Dr. Li Huansong, with the backing of relevant health authorities.
According to the organisers, the outreach not only addressed the immediate healthcare demands of the demographic, but also served as a testament to the enduring bond of friendship and mutual co-operation between the peoples of Guyana and the People’s Republic of China.
