A CORENTYNE accident has left dead a father, Joseph Mangar,32, and his son, four-year-old Johnathan Mangar, both of Limlair Village, Corentyne, after the father’s car had plunged into a Lesbeholden, Corentyne canal and was submerged.

According to initial police information, the accident happened at about 13:50hrs (1:50 PM) and involved motor car PYY 2317, which was owned and driven by Joseph Mangar.

The vehicle was proceeding south along the Lesbeholden Public Road, reportedly at a fast rate of speed, when the driver reportedly lost control. The car subsequently veered off the roadway and ended up in a canal on the western side of the road before becoming completely submerged.

Residents immediately rushed to the scene in an attempt to offer assistance, however, they were unable to save the father and child.

Both victims were pulled from the submerged vehicle and rushed to the Port Mourant Public Hospital. However, despite efforts to save them, doctors subsequently pronounced both father and son dead.

The bodies were later escorted to a funeral home, where they are awaiting post-mortem examinations.
