– President Ali invites Singapore to join Global Biodiversity Alliance

PRESIDENT, Dr Irfaan Ali on Monday engaged in high-level bilateral discussions with Singapore’s Foreign Minister, Vivian Balakrishnan, as Guyana and Singapore moved to strengthen cooperation in key areas including energy, climate resilience, artificial intelligence and food security.
The meeting was held at the Office of the President, where both sides explored opportunities for deeper collaboration and the establishment of a framework to support closer partnerships between the two countries.
According to the Office of the President, President Ali said Guyana and Singapore are working towards enhanced cooperation in the energy sector, climate-related initiatives, technical support for the implementation of AI and digitisation systems, and expanding opportunities linked to food security.
The Head of State also encouraged Singapore to join the Global Biodiversity Alliance, an initiative aimed at advancing global partnerships to protect biodiversity and promote sustainable environmental practices.
Guyana has in recent years intensified efforts to position itself as a global leader in biodiversity conservation, low-carbon development and digital transformation, while simultaneously expanding its role in regional and international food security initiatives.
Also present at the meeting were Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall; Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd; Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat; Minister of Public Service, Government Efficiency and Implementation, Zulfikar Ally; along with other government officials.
The engagement forms part of Guyana’s broader push to expand international partnerships in areas tied to economic diversification, technological advancement and sustainable development.
