VICE-President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo has assured Amerindian leaders in Region Two that creating employment opportunities and improving lives in hinterland communities remain top priorities for the Government.
Speaking during a public outreach in Region Two on Tuesday, the Vice-President said the administration is focused on ensuring more jobs are created, particularly for young people in Amerindian villages.
He noted that government investments are aimed at supporting development projects while simultaneously generating employment opportunities across communities.

The outreach brought together leaders from several Amerindian villages, along with government ministers, permanent secretaries, and regional officials. Among those present were Ministers Madanlall Ramraj, Priya Manickchand, Vindhya Persaud, Zulfikar Mustapha, Sarah Browne, and Dr. Ashni Singh.
Jagdeo explained that while not every issue can be resolved immediately, the government remains committed to transforming Amerindian communities through development initiatives, job creation, and expanded training opportunities.
He revealed that approximately $1.4 billion has been allocated for projects in Amerindian villages in Region Two, as part of a wider national investment benefiting 252 Amerindian communities across Guyana.
According to the Vice-President, more than 3,000 projects are currently being implemented to improve livelihoods and stimulate economic growth in villages countrywide.
Special emphasis, he said, is also being placed on education and skills training.
Jagdeo encouraged young people to take advantage of the government’s free university education initiative, noting that many persons are still not making full use of the opportunity to attend the University of Guyana tuition-free once they meet the required qualifications.
He added that every child remains a priority to the government, with education being provided free at all levels.
The Vice-President also highlighted ongoing housing improvements and assistance programmes being rolled out along the Essequibo Coast.
“This is just the beginning of the conversation,” Jagdeo told village leaders, while stressing the importance of partnerships in advancing the development of Amerindian communities.
Meanwhile, Keanu Thomas, Toshao of Tapakuma, thanked the Vice-President for engaging directly with residents and said the community welcomed the outreach.
