A TWO-DAY cybersecurity training programme aimed at strengthening Guyana’s national security infrastructure has concluded, with members of the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) and the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) receiving advanced instruction in cyber threat prevention and digital security systems.

The programme was organised by Data Technology Guyana in collaboration with global cybersecurity firm Fortinet and focused on preparing security personnel to respond to the growing complexity of cyber threats targeting critical infrastructure and sensitive information systems.

According to organisers, participants were exposed to industry-standard cybersecurity frameworks, modern security tools and best practices through hands-on training sessions designed to improve national cyber defence capabilities.

General Manager of Data Technology Guyana, Rennie Leow, said the initiative represented an important step in strengthening the country’s cyber resilience.

“By empowering our national security forces with the right knowledge and tools, we are laying a strong foundation for a more secure digital future for Guyana,” Leow said.

The training also highlighted ongoing collaboration between the private sector and international technology partners to expand cybersecurity capacity in Guyana as the country continues its digital transformation efforts.

Fortinet Regional Account Manager for Guyana and Suriname, Bhagwat Persaud, participated in the programme alongside senior representatives from the security sector, including Deputy Director of the National Defence Institute and ICT Policy Advisor to the GDF, Dr. Seon Levius, and Officer Commanding of the GDF Information Technology Department, Major Samuel Jason Klien and representatives from National Intelligence and Security Agency.

Data Technology Guyana said it intends to continue supporting the development of secure and sustainable information and communications technology systems as Guyana advances its digital infrastructure and online services.
