PRESIDENT of Guyana, Dr Irfaan Ali, has approved the appointment of a new slate of Regional Executive Officers (REOs), as the administration moves to strengthen governance and public-service delivery across the country’s 10 administrative regions.
According to a statement released by government, the newly appointed REOs are expected to work closely with regional administrations, local democratic organs and communities to advance development programmes and improve the delivery of services to citizens.
The appointments form part of the wider efforts to build professional, responsive, and people-centred institutions aimed at supporting inclusive development throughout Guyana.
Last week, President Ali along with Vice-President, Dr Bharrat Jagdeo met with Cabinet members, soon-to-be- appointed Regional Executive Officers; Permanent Secretaries; Officers from the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board and Accounting Officers from all regions, emphasising government’s continued commitment to accountability, transparency, fiscal prudence and improved service delivery across all levels of government administration.
The President stressed that sacred trust accompanies public office and that every dollar spent must be to advance the welfare of the people and support national development.
All procurement systems, including regional tender boards, are required to operate with full transparency and strict adherence to the law.
The government remains committed to utilising technological advances, such as artificial intelligence, to actively monitor procurement processes, improve efficiency, and detect unsavoury practices.
The President emphasised that any breaches in financial and procurement procedures, including involvement with multiple companies, will attract severe consequences, including removal from office where necessary.
As emphasised by Vice President Bharrat Jagdeo, every expenditure must be measured against its contribution to the welfare of citizens and national development, as the government strengthens oversight systems, eliminates waste, and upholds accountability, efficiency, and transparency in governance.
