A 36-year-old taxi driver, Casey Chapman, died on Saturday after he was allegedly stabbed during a confrontation at Plum Park, Sophia.
The police said the incident occurred on Friday around 23:45hrs and stemmed from an argument between two drivers along Farmers Field, Sophia.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was driving his motor car with a female passenger when he encountered another vehicle travelling in the opposite direction near a barber shop.
According to a police release, both vehicles came alongside each other and neither was able to pass clearly, resulting in an argument that escalated into a physical altercation.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed the taxi driver in the middle of his chest. Police said the blade broke off and remained lodged in the victim’s chest.
Despite his injuries, the victim reportedly drove himself to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation Accident and Emergency Unit, where he was admitted and later succumbed in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
The suspect, a 34-year-old painter of South Sophia, was arrested at the scene and taken into police custody. He was later escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation for medical attention.
Investigators recovered a brown wooden knife handle believed to be part of the weapon used in the attack.
The police said CCTV cameras in the area are being reviewed as part of an investigation, which is ongoing.
