ON the instructions of President, Dr Irfaan Ali, Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat and Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond travelled to Apaiqua Landing along the Mazaruni River in Region Seven on Saturday to meet with residents affected by a devastating fire which destroyed several properties on Friday night.

According to information from Minister Walrond on the ground, the blaze resulted in the destruction of nine buildings and displaced more than 20 persons, leaving families and business owners grappling with significant losses.
The ministers conducted assessments in the community and are coordinating relief and support efforts for those affected as the government moves to provide immediate assistance.
“Our thoughts remain with the families and business owners impacted during this difficult time,” Minister Walrond said in a Facebook post.
The visiting team is also engaging residents to determine the extent of the damage and identify urgent needs, while agencies continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
Apaiqua Landing, a mining community located along the Mazaruni River, is home to several businesses and residents who depend heavily on river transport and commercial activities for their livelihoods.
