THE Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) launched Nurses Week 2026 with a renewed commitment to strengthening nursing care and recognising staff across the institution.

Nurses Week 2026 is being observed under the theme: ‘The Power of Nurses’. It commenced on May 6, 2026, and will run until May 12, 2026.

The launch ceremony brought together nurses, hospital leadership, and staff members to celebrate the invaluable role nurses play in patient care and the overall healthcare system, according to the hospital.

At the same time, the GPHC also held a soft launch of its DAISY Wall, an initiative designed to recognise nurses who have demonstrated exceptional compassion, dedication, and service.

The GPHC’s Chief Executive Officer, Robbie Rambarran, in his address to the gathering, reaffirmed the GPHC’s commitment to supporting nurses through professional development, recognition programmes, and staff welfare initiatives.

“Nurses are doing tremendous work here,” Rambarran said, while also encouraging stronger mentorship, leadership, accountability, and teamwork throughout the institution.

He further noted that GPHC remains committed to developing nurses, stating, “There is no reason why we should not support nurses who wish to equip themselves through upward mobility and academic qualification, because ultimately it will benefit our nation’s health and the patients we care for.”

Meanwhile, the Director of Nursing Services, Leslyn Holder, delivered special remarks, during which she reflected on the nursing profession, the sacrifices nurses make daily, and the important role they play as patient advocates, innovators, leaders, and healers.

Holder emphasised that nurses are often the bridge between fear and comfort for patients during their most vulnerable moments, describing nursing as more than a profession, but a calling rooted in compassion, resilience, and empathy.

Ms. Holder also reflected on the DAISY Award programme, which started as a partnership between GPHC and Northwell Health, noting that the initiative has become an important part of the hospital’s culture of appreciation and recognition.

The GPHC unveiled a Content and Activities Calendar, highlighting a number of observances arranged for this month. For Nurses Week, the GPHC will have a Nurses Medical Outreach, a Nurses Church Service, and, on the final day, observance International Nurses Day, along with an award ceremony.

Also, included on the Content and Activities Calendar, is World Lupus Day, Critical Care Awareness Day, World Hypertension Day, Family Doctor Day, and World No Tobacco Day, just to name a few.

According to the hospital, these activities reflect the GPHC’s continued commitment to education, recognition, and patient-centred care.
