KARIAKO Village in Region One (Barima-Waini) has achieved a significant milestone with the arrival of its first-ever community transport service, marking a major step forward in improving accessibility and daily life for residents.
The introduction of the bus is expected to deliver immediate benefits, particularly for school children who will now have access to safer and more reliable transportation to and from school.
For years, transportation challenges have posed barriers to consistent school attendance and broader mobility within the community.
Beyond education, the new service is set to enhance overall connectivity for residents, making it easier to access essential services and strengthening links within the wider region.
The initiative fulfils a commitment made by Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Sarah Browne-Shadesk, during a prior visit to Kariako Village.
During that engagement, the minister met with residents, listened to their concerns, and identified transportation as a pressing need requiring urgent attention.
The delivery of the bus represents not only the fulfilment of that promise but also a meaningful investment in the well-being and future development of Kariako Village, reinforcing the government’s commitment to supporting hinterland communities, the ministry said.
