ACTION in the Georgetown Cricket Association’s Eline Security Logistics 50-over U-17 Cricket Tournament continued over the weekend in the capital city, with Shane Shivbarran scoring a masterful century for Malteenoes and Vinesh Kalpoo producing an outstanding all-round performance for Everest on Sunday.
At the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) ground, the host crushed GT XI by 161 runs after making 262-8 in their 50 overs and bowling out the visitors for a paltry 101 in 36 overs.
GT XI invited Malteenoes to bat in sunny conditions on a good batting track and fast outfield.
Shane Shivbarran scored 133 runs from 132 balls with seven fours and five sixes and shared in three half-century partnerships.
Shivbarran dominated a 62-run opening stand with Shane Kissoon, who scored 18 with a couple of boundaries before he was removed by Zahid Talkudar.
Shivbarran deposited Talkudar for six in the third over before stroking Jamal Samuels for two fours in the next over and reached his fifty with a well-timed boundary off Nathan Puran from 60 balls in the 19th over.
Elija Mohamed trapped skipper Joshua Budram (9) lbw at 95-2 before Nathaniel Ramkallawan lofted him for six.
Shivbarran added 95 for the third wicket with Ramkallawan as the pair took Malteenoes to 150 before Shivbarran retired for a ‘comfort break’ on 81 with the score at 136-2.
Shivbarran returned when Ajay Kissoon bowled Ramkallawan for 27 with two fours at 150-3 and proceeded to share in another half century stand of the innings as he found another competent partner in Kyle Gibson.
Shivbarran hit Puran for four to reach his ton from 112 balls and celebrated the landmark with a scorching boundary off the next ball.
Talkudar had Gibson lbw for 31 at 227-5 to break the 77-run fourth-wicket stand before Talkudar trapped Shivbarran lbw at 240-5.
MSC lost three more wickets for an additional of 22 runs.
Talkudar finished with 3-39 for GT XI, who were dismissed for 101 in 36 overs as only Kissoon (17), Tyrell King (16) and Samuels (14) reached double figures.
Tyler Nedd (3-10) and Ramkallawan (3-17) bowled Malteenoes to victory.
At the QC No. One Ground, Everest on the back of a good all-round performance from Vinesh Kalpo, destroyed Queen’s College by 149 runs.
Kalpoo hit five fours and seven sixes in a stroke-filled 80 from 70 and got support from Savir Narine who reached the ropes thrice and cleared it once in an entertaining 35 to lift the Camp Road side to 216 all out from 39 overs. Sixty extras including 40 wides was the second top score.
Nathaniel Sukhnandan had 4-17, Altaf Ali took 3-51 and Shiv Piterhous snared 2-60 for QC, who were skittled out for 67 in 25.2 overs.
Emilo Singh (10) was the only batter to reach double figures as Kalpoo returned with the ball to capture 3-31. He was supported by Ravindra Singh, Brandon Browne and Anek Haimnarine who had two wickets each.
And on Saturday at the QC ground GT XI mauled QC by 229 runs as GT XI recovered from three quick wickets to reach 274-5 when their 50 overs expired.
Tyrell King stroked a regal 95 from 90 balls, with four fours and two sixes, and, along with Nathan Puran (40) and Jamal Samuels (27), powered GT XI to the highest total in the tournament.
QC were fired out for 45 in 19.4 overs, as only Nathaniel Sukhnandan (13) and Emilo Singh (11) reached double figures.
Nathan Puran had 4-3, while Somesh Boyer and Zahid Talkudar took two wickets each.
