—‘The Independent Artist’ showcase set for May 14 at Castellani House
THE National Gallery of Art (NGA), Castellani House, has issued a call for artists to participate in its upcoming Visual Arts Exhibition, scheduled for May 14, 2026, in celebration of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary.
According to the gallery’s curator, Ohene Koama, the exhibition, titled “The Independent Artist,” does not have a specific theme and allows artists to submit work in areas such as painting, sculpture, drawing, ceramics, and photography.
The rules of the competition are straightforward: a maximum of three pieces per artist; all artworks must be professionally finished and ready for display; each piece must include the title, date, and medium; and artists must submit a short ‘bio’ along with a brief artist statement via email to ngaguy1993@gmail.com.
Additionally, the title, date, medium, and price for each submitted piece must also be included in the email.
The deadline for submissions is May 6, 2026, at 17:00 hrs, with artworks to be delivered to Castellani House. No submissions will be accepted after this deadline.
Koama noted that several artists have already submitted pieces for the exhibition, and the timeline allows for works to be installed ahead of the official opening.
The exhibition aims to showcase local talent and provide artists with a platform to reach a wider audience.
Following the opening on May 14, the exhibition will continue into June, giving art enthusiasts the opportunity to visit Castellani House and view the works on display.
