POLICE are investigating the discovery of a decomposed body found at Capoey Lake, Essequibo Coast, on Friday evening.
The body, believed to be that of an adult male of mixed ancestry, remains unidentified.
Police said the discovery was made around 18:10 hrs on May 1, 2026, after ranks responded to a report and went to the location, where the body was found lying face up and motionless on the lake bank.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the body was partially submerged in water and clad only in black underwear.
Investigators also observed a tattoo bearing the word “ANIMAL,” along with the image of a jaguar, on the upper left arm of the deceased.
The body was removed from the scene and taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where it was examined and certified dead by a doctor on duty.
It has since been transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits identification and a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
