THE Ministry of Home Affairs has launched an investigation into a video circulating on social media that allegedly contains threats against Director of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), James Singh, warning that any attempt to intimidate law enforcement officials will be met with the full force of the law.
In a statement, the Ministry confirmed that law enforcement agencies are actively working to determine the origin, authenticity, and intent of the video, while simultaneously implementing measures to ensure the safety and security of those targeted. Authorities stressed that threats against the life of a public official constitute a serious criminal offence and will be treated as such.
The development comes amid heightened anti-narcotics operations across Guyana. During the first quarter of 2026, CANU reported the seizure of more than 371 kilograms of narcotics and the dismantling of several trafficking networks through sustained, intelligence-driven enforcement efforts.
While the timing of the threat coincides with these intensified operations, officials cautioned that the investigation remains ongoing and no conclusions have been drawn regarding any direct connection.
The Government has underscored its zero-tolerance stance on attacks against law enforcement personnel, making it clear that efforts to undermine national security will not succeed. It reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks, both locally and internationally, through coordinated and sustained action.
“No individual or group will be allowed to threaten those tasked with upholding the rule of law,” the Ministry stated, reiterating that Guyana’s security agencies remain resolute in their mandate to protect the public and enforce the law.
