THAG endorses President Ali’s call for a review of Guyana’s littering laws

PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali’s recent call for a review of Guyana’s littering laws to reflect the evolving landscape of public safety and accountability has attracted the support of the Tourism and Hospitality Association of Guyana (THAG).

THAG in a press release issued on Thursday underscored the importance of the President’s remarks. “If our society is to be disciplined and if we want to create a Guyana that would be a leader in tourism, technology, food, and energy, we must be a leader with conscience, with humanity, and with a sense of environmental stewardship and a quality of life that is second to none.”

THAG therefore encourages a balanced approach that combines enforcement with education, ensuring that citizens understand not only the penalties for littering, but the broader national importance of environmental responsibility.

According to the association, “We believe that maintaining a clean and environmentally responsible nation is essential to strengthening Guyana’s tourism product and enhancing the overall quality of life for all citizens.”

THAG is the national private-sector body representing tourism and hospitality stakeholders, and is actively working to advance policy reform, industry standards, and the sustainable development of Guyana’s tourism economy.
