Body found at Victoria koker identified as missing Sparendaam woman

POLICE in Regional Division 4 ‘C’ are continuing investigations into the discovery of a body at a koker in Victoria, East Coast Demerara, which has since been identified as 73-year-old Carlyn Greaves of Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara.
Greaves’ body was formally identified on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, by a 27-year-old relative from Plaisance who confirmed that the deceased was his aunt.
According to police, Greaves had been reported missing from her Sparendaam residence at the Sparendaam Police Station on Friday, April 10, 2026, at about 21:42 hours.
The body, which is currently at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination, was initially discovered on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at about 17:00 hours at the Victoria koker.
Preliminary police reports indicate that residents raised an alarm after observing a body floating in the canal at the koker. Law enforcement ranks responded and found the remains positioned on the southern side of the first koker door.
The body was retrieved and examined at the scene, where officers observed a tattoo of a heart-shaped object on the right thigh and what are believed to be fish bite marks on the left shoulder. At the time of discovery, the remains were in an advanced state of decomposition and the identity of the deceased was not immediately known.
The body was subsequently transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead, before being escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police say investigations are ongoing as they seek to determine the circumstances surrounding Greaves’ death.
Authorities had initially launched an inquiry after the unidentified female body was recovered from the canal system in Victoria, East Coast Demerara, sparking concern among residents in the area.
Further updates are expected as the post-mortem examination and investigation progress.
