FRANKLYN Courtman, a proud son of the Pomeroon, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), has achieved an extraordinary milestone, celebrating his 100th birthday as one of Guyana’s last surviving veterans of World War II.
Now residing with his daughter, Monica Courtman, in Onderneeming, his life stands as a powerful testament to courage, sacrifice, and unwavering national pride.
Courtman was among the other Guyanese who bravely volunteered to serve during World War II, joining the South Caribbean Force in defense of freedom and global peace.
His journey carried him far beyond the shores of Guyana to places such as Italy and Egypt—regions deeply affected by the war—where he played his part in the fight for liberation. His service remains a source of pride not only for his family but for the nation as a whole.

On April 14, 2026, as he marked a full century of life, Courtman was honoured with a heartfelt celebration hosted by his family at Onderneeming.
The occasion brought together members of the Guyana Veteran Legion (Essequibo Chapter), members of the Guyana Defence Force, representatives of the Regional Democratic Council (RDC), along with his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends also gathered to share in this historic and joyous celebration.

His daughter, Monica Courtman, also expressed pride in caring for her father, describing him as a strong and resilient man who continues to inspire those around him.
Representing the Region Two RDC, Tageanindra Kishore presented a hamper on behalf of the region and extended warm wishes during the celebration.
She highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that reaching 100 years is a rare and remarkable achievement marked by wisdom, strength, and a lifetime of invaluable experiences. She expressed gratitude for his service and praised the example he continues to set for future generations.
Adding to the honours, the Royal Commonwealth Ex-Services League awarded Corporal Franklyn Courtman a certificate in recognition of his centenary milestone. The tribute, signed by Major General Mitch Mitchell, Deputy Grand President, conveyed heartfelt congratulations and best wishes.
