SOME thoughts linger in our imaginations, erasing today’s conversations.
Our world is draped betwixt the whispers of suspicion and the distrust of kin and all, the conversations that speak of things we have not been taught, so the mystery is awake, and we are too vulnerable, timid, and unsure to enquire of. We humans are linked to the mysteries of the past; no, not the historic past of plantations, etc., but the past of mysteries, and the possibilities of whispers of healing, and memories of elders who tell of the talents of past ancestors, who, through their kinship with the forests and choice plants, cured us, teaching even the masters of the day. Slowly, and in our modern times, against the sinister planted viruses of the day, a humble fruit boiled together with another was able to liberate many, including myself.

We have heard many tales of olden botanicals and used them, but the old ones were not anxious and took their time in applying their soups and, at times, their not-too-tasty health potions. We have to be cautious; with the hustlers of our day, survival has defied patience and caution, so we must return to the counsel of the elder souls. This will also call for the current generation to pay attention to and explore books we did not pay attention to not too long ago. We are discussing the entheogens of our era. Seek in the study of anthropology and medicine, but do work at home also; learn from those who stayed closer to the old folk and learnt a thing or two that those who strayed did not hear. The study of healing is both modern and ancient. There are things that they call cultural practices; take no heed of the ‘high’ fantasies of artificial poisons that have placed so many on the streets, as the wise would say in warning, “Deh pon yuh heights and live wise”.
