HUNDREDS of residents capitalised on a comprehensive health fair hosted by the Region Two Health Department at the Anna Regina Car Park, in observance of World Health Day, celebrated annually on April 7.
The event was attended by Minister within the Ministry of Public Works Madanlall Ramraj; Regional Chairman Devin Mohan; and Deputy Regional Executive Officer Omesh Sasenarayan.
Regional Health Officer Dr. Ranjeev Singh highlighted the wide range of services offered, including laboratory testing, eye examinations, otoscopy, voluntary blood donation, doctor consultations, dispensing of medications, environmental health education, vaccinations, HIV counselling and testing, and oral health services.
He said that residents were also able to access and utilise health vouchers for various services, while vaccines were administered on site.
Dr. Singh emphasised that the initiative forms part of efforts to decentralise government healthcare services, making them more accessible to communities.
Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the initiative. Marcia Jones, a mother of two, shared that the process was simple and convenient.
“I went with my ID and was able to access services, do my blood tests, and have my eyes examined all in one place. This is very good,” she said.
Another resident, Norman De Lee of Anna Regina, said she brought her children for check-ups and commended the Government of Guyana and the Ministry of Health for the initiative, describing it as a worthwhile and impactful venture.
