Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) is pleased to announce that following a productive meeting with Hon. Steven Jacobs, Junior Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, the Government of Guyana has reaffirmed its strong support for the 2026 Over-40s Cricket World Cup, scheduled to be held in Guyana from October 17 to November 1, 2026.
CWIMA was represented at the meeting by Rajendra Singh, Chairman; Roy Singh, Secretary; and Ramdeo Kumar, Convenor of the World Cup Finance Committee.
Minister Jacobs gave his blessings to the tournament and pledged his full support for the successful hosting of what is expected to be one of the most significant masters cricket events ever staged in the Caribbean.
The tournament is expected to bring together up to 16 international teams, with Guyana set to welcome players, officials, and supporters from across the cricketing world for more than two weeks of high-level competition, sports tourism, and international exposure.
As part of the government’s commitment, Minister Jacobs pledged the use of the stadia at Providence, Palmyra, Anna Regina and Linden as key venues within the tournament infrastructure.
In addition, the Minister pledged support for the refurbishment and upgrading of several cricket grounds to strengthen Guyana’s readiness to host the event.
These grounds include Enmore, Malteenoes, Lusignan, and Albion, all of which are expected to play an important role in the delivery and legacy of the World Cup.
Roy Singh, Secretary of CWIMA, said the support from the Government of Guyana is a major step forward in preparations for the event.
“This World Cup is more than a cricket tournament. It is a major international sports tourism opportunity that will bring visitors, global visibility, and economic activity to Guyana while also leaving behind improved sporting facilities for local communities.”
With government backing, upgraded venues, and growing international interest, Guyana is positioning itself to deliver a memorable and professionally run World Cup that reflects the country’s expanding role in regional and international sport.
