POLICE in Regional Division Two have launched an investigation after discovering suspected narcotics at Charity Backstreet, Essequibo Coast, around 14:30 hrs, on Saturday.

According to information from the police, during a mobile patrol in the area, ranks observed a 23-year-old labourer of Dartmouth Village, Essequibo Coast, standing between two stalls.

“As ranks exited their vehicle, the man was seen throwing a black bulky plastic bag and a small whitish plastic bag onto the top of a shed,” police said.

The two bags were retrieved, and were searched in the suspect’s presence. Police found several leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis, along with two transparent zip-lock bags containing crystal-like rocks suspected to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) commonly known as “Molly”.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Charity Police Station along with the suspected narcotics.

The suspected cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 230 grammes, while the suspected methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA) amounted to six grammes, before both were processed and lodged. The suspect remains in custody pending charges.
