THE father of the seven-year-old Corentyne child who was killed by her mother on Sunday has spoken out, claiming that about two weeks ago he discovered messages on the woman’s phone, which led him to leave and spend some time at his mother’s home.
He said, however, the woman gave him 15 minutes on Sunday to return home before she did something he would “regret.”
The community of Fyrish was left in a state of shock after the 26-year-old mother, who claimed to be in a state of frustration, fatally suffocated her seven-year-old daughter, and attempted to kill herself and one-year-old son.
Dead is Isabella Dabadial. Her brother also sustained injuries during the incident but survived.
The suspect, Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud, told investigators that she had been experiencing significant frustration after her husband left the home several days ago and refused to return.
She further claimed that on Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, she woke up with no food in the house, which allegedly led her to suffocate her seven-year-old daughter.
Police said the woman also admitted that she attempted to strangle or otherwise suffocate her infant son but was unsuccessful.
Investigators further revealed that after the incident, Shivpersaud reportedly slit a vein behind both of her ankles in what is believed to have been an attempt to take her own life.
She and the two children were subsequently escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where Isabella was pronounced dead on arrival.
Shivpersaud received medical treatment and sutures for her injuries and is currently listed in stable condition at the hospital, where she remains under police guard.
On Sunday morning prior to the incident, Shivpersaud posted on a picture with herself and her two children on her Facebook page, where she wrote “Me and my babies last pic! I’m sorry! May god forgive me!”
However, the children’s father, Kirwayne Dabidyal, an agronomist attached to the Albion Estate, has since spoken out about the incident, noting that he left the house some two weeks ago after he found inappropriate messages in his wife’s phone.
According to him, he and the woman were together for eight years and during that period they would have issues.
He claimed: “she always use the children to manipulate me to get me to stay.”
Dabidyal said that on Sunday she gave him 15 minutes to return home or regret it.
In a recount of what happened, he said: “She messaged me and told me she give me fifteen minutes to reach back home or I will regret it, and then she called me and show me the kids laying down looked like they were sleeping and told me its too late.”
Dabidyal said that they immediately contacted persons nearby who subsequently made the discovery.
The grieving man said that currently he is coming to terms with the death of his daughter.
Meanwhile, relatives of the woman have strongly denied the allegation that there was no food in the house as according to them they spoke with the woman on Sunday morning who had told them that they had breakfast and she would be cooking pumpkin and rice for lunch.
The woman’s mother, Lalita Brijlall also confirmed this information as she spoke to her daughter prior to the fatal incident.
