PRIME Minister Brigadier (Ret’d) Mark Phillips was present at the Bartica Easter Regatta 2026 on Easter Sunday, where he officially declared the races open at the annual event held in the river town of Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni–Mazaruni).
Delivering the feature address at the opening ceremony, Prime Minister Phillips reaffirmed the government’s steadfast commitment to the regatta, indicating that support will continue to be channelled through the relevant ministries to further expand and enhance the event.

He noted that the regatta remains an enduring tradition that reflects the culture, spirit, and pride of the Bartican community.
This year’s edition is widely regarded as one of the most action-packed to date, with organisers scheduling 20 powerboat racing events, including three Formula One races, as the highlight of the Easter Sunday programme.
Several new boats are set to make their debut on the water, with top competitors already confirmed to thrill the large crowds expected at the waterfront.
The Bartica Regatta, Guyana’s oldest annual regatta, also features a packed calendar of supporting activities, including football, domino competitions, grass track racing, and a beauty pageant.
