–President Ali tells Guyanese amidst Easter festivities

PRESIDENT Dr. Irfaan Ali on Sunday extended Easter greetings to Guyanese at home and in the Diaspora, urging citizens to embrace the season as one of hope, renewal, and enduring joy.

In his Easter message, the Head of State reflected on the significance of Christ’s resurrection, describing Easter as the “heartbeat of the Christian faith”, and a reminder that joy can emerge even after periods of sorrow and uncertainty.

Quoting Psalm 30:5 “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning” — President Ali said the message of Easter remains deeply relevant, offering comfort to those facing loss, loneliness or hardship.

He recalled the grief experienced by the followers of Jesus on Good Friday, but said Easter morning transformed despair into triumph with the resurrection of Christ.

He said: “To every citizen of our mighty nation, whether you are here in Guyana or abroad, I extend greetings for a radiant and joyful Easter! May this sacred dawn fill your cup to overflowing, and may your homes dance with the light of heaven’s own gladness.”

President Ali also highlighted the way Easter is celebrated across Guyana, noting that the extended holiday weekend is marked not only by worship and reflection, but also by vibrant traditions and family-centred festivities.

He pointed to kite flying across the country, the Bartica Regatta, the Rupununi Rodeo, picnics along the coastland and horse racing on the Corentyne as examples of the rich cultural spirit that accompanies the Easter season.

According to the President, these activities bring communities together and reflect the warmth, resilience and joy of the Guyanese people.

Even amid the celebrations, however, he urged citizens not to lose sight of the true meaning of Easter, saying it remains a powerful symbol of victory over sin and death, and a lasting source of hope.

“Yet in all our festivities, let us not forget the central message of this day. Easter heralds the triumph over sin and death. It is a season of Hope,” the President said.
