TRAGEDY struck the community of Fyrish on Easter Sunday after a 26 year old mother in a state of frustration fatally suffocated her seven year old daughter and attempted to kill herself and one year old son.
Dead is Isabella Dabadial, a seven-year-old student of Cooper Primary School and of Fyrish Road, Corentyne. Her brother, Ethan, 1, also sustained injuries during the incident but survived.
The alleged suspect is their mother, Sarah Elizabeth Shivpersaud, a 26-year-old ten-day worker of Fyrish Road, Corentyne.
According to initial police investigations, Shivpersaud reportedly told investigators that she had been experiencing significant frustration after her husband left the home several days ago and refused to return. She stated that on Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, she woke up with no food in the house, which allegedly led her to suffocate her seven-year-old daughter.
Police said the woman also admitted that she attempted to strangle or otherwise suffocate her infant son, Ethan, but was unsuccessful.
Investigators further revealed that after the incident, Shivpersaud reportedly slit a vein behind both of her ankles in what is believed to have been an attempt to take her own life.
She and the two children were subsequently escorted to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where Isabella was pronounced dead on arrival.
Shivpersaud received medical treatment and sutures for her injuries and is currently listed in stable condition at the hospital, where she remains under police guard.
On Sunday morning prior to the incident, Shivpersaud posted on a picture with herself and her two children on her Facebook where she wrote “Me and my babies last pic! I’m sorry! May god forgive me!”
As of Sunday afternoon, police were continuing the investigation.
