Azruddin Mohamed’s absence from this morning’s extradition hearing triggered another pause to the proceedings at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

Senior Counsel Roysdale Forde told Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman that his client is suffering from dengue fever after seeking medical attention yesterday, where he underwent examinations and laboratory testing.

Forde said the diagnosis came with medical advice for ten days’ rest, adding that official documents, including a medical certificate and lab results, will be submitted to the court and prosecutors.

Pressed by the magistrate on Mohamed’s whereabouts, Forde explained that his client remains unwell, experiencing fever, severe headaches and drowsiness.

When the court explored the option of Mohamed appearing virtually, Forde maintained that his condition made participation impossible.

Magistrate Latchman ordered the attending doctor to appear before the court at 1:00 p.m. to verify the medical claims.

The high-profile matter has been adjourned and is set to resume at 1:00 p.m., with the court now turning its focus to the credibility of the illness at the center of the delay. (NCN)
