Police are probing the murder of a man known only as “Mikey,” whose body was discovered with multiple stab wounds at Granny Road, Sand Hill, Cuyuni River, on Sunday morning.

According to a police release, the alleged murder occurred between Saturday, February 28, 2026, about 21:30 hrs and Sunday, March 1, 2026, about 08:00 hrs, and resulted in the death of the male whose correct name and other particulars are still unknown.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had been residing at a farm at the location along with other workers and, on the night in question, reportedly left the camp to visit a nearby shop in the company of another male.

Police said that at about 08:00 hrs on Sunday, “the victim’s lifeless body was discovered at the side of the road, several metres away from the shop.”

The body bore multiple stab wounds to the upper body. It is being escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital for an official pronouncement and will subsequently be taken to the Bartica Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The release further stated that five males, including persons who were reportedly with the deceased prior to the discovery of his body, have been arrested and are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.

Investigations are ongoing.
