THE Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has launched an investigation into two separate aircraft incidents that occurred on Thursday at the Mathews Ridge airstrip in Region One, both involving Cessna 208 Caravan aircraft.
According to the GCAA, the first incident took place at approximately 07:55hrs and involved a Jags Aviation aircraft, registration 8R-KAB. Preliminary reports indicate that the aircraft sustained a puncture to its left landing gear tyre while manoeuvring in the parking area.
The second incident occurred about 20 minutes later, at approximately 08:15hrs, and involved an Air Services Limited (ASL) Cessna 208 Caravan, registration 8R-GCB. The aircraft reportedly landed on the prepared surface but overran onto an unprepared section of the runway, resulting in a punctured tyre on the left landing gear.
Authorities confirmed that there were no injuries in either incident and no significant damage was reported to the aircraft.
The GCAA noted that the Government of Guyana had issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) advising pilots to exercise heightened caution during approach, landing and take-off at the Mathews Ridge runway, which is currently undergoing upgrades. These advisories are included in pilots’ pre-flight briefings.
The aviation body said it remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation into both incidents as part of its mandate to maintain and enforce the highest standards of aviation safety.
