THE police in Regional Division Six are investigating an alleged wounding incident that occurred on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Number 76 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Berbice, and the subsequent death of the suspect.
According to a police release, on the day in question, a 47-year-old woman of the said address ran to a neighbouring yard with visible injuries and reported that she had had a misunderstanding with her reputed husband, during which he allegedly stabbed her with a knife. The suspect reportedly fled the scene on a motorcycle.
The injured woman was rushed to the Number 75 Public Hospital, where she was admitted as a patient. Her condition was initially listed as serious, but has since stabilised.
The following day, Monday, February 23, at approximately 10:45hrs, the lifeless body of the suspect, identified as Patrick Mahendra Singh, 46, a cane harvester of Number 76 Village, was discovered at the said address. He is suspected to have ingested a poisonous substance.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident and the suspect’s death are ongoing.
