POLICE are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed the life of a motorcyclist following a collision along the Amelia’s Ward Public Road in Linden on Saturday night.

According to the Guyana Police Force, the accident occurred at about 22:40hrs within the jurisdiction of Regional Division #10 and involved motor car PXX 5812 and motorcycle CP 8031.

Investigators reported that the motor car, driven by a female resident of Central Amelia’s Ward, allegedly exited a northern parking area onto the public roadway at the same time that the motorcycle, operated by Trevor Daniels of Kairuni along the Soesdyke–Linden Highway, was proceeding east along the northern side of the road.

Initial enquiries suggest that the motorcyclist was travelling at a fast rate of speed when the two vehicles collided, resulting in impact to the front portion of the motorcycle.

As a consequence of the collision, Daniels was thrown onto the roadway and sustained serious injuries. Public-spirited citizens reportedly assisted in transporting him, in an unconscious state, to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was examined by medical personnel and admitted in critical condition.

Police said the injured man later succumbed to his injuries at approximately 17:30hrs on Sunday while receiving treatment.

A breathalyser test administered to the driver of the motor car recorded a reading of zero per cent alcohol, investigators confirmed.

Police have indicated that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident are continuing.
