Guyana’s economy rides waves of global uncertainty

–registers 19.3% growth, with significant 14.3% growth in non-oil sector
DESPITE a year marked by global uncertainty, Guyana’s economy rose above the circumstances and remained resilient in 2025, registering overall real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 19.3 per cent, and non-oil GDP growth of 14.3 per cent.

This was according to Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh, during his presentation of Budget 2026 to the National Assembly.
“Guyana’s sustained strong economic performance comes against the backdrop of a global economy that is best characterised by uneven growth and an uncertain outlook,” Dr. Singh said.
While reimaging broadly resilient in 2025, the global economy was confronted by some loss of momentum, as several events weighed on economic activities, the Senior Minister said.
He referenced a rapidly changing global policy environment, significant shifts in global trading arrangements and other factors that tempered business and consumer confidence and weakened cross-border investments.

“Despite the challenges and uncertain global context…, the PPP/C’s government’s robust policy framework has enabled us in Guyana to demonstrate consistently that economic growth can be strong and steady in the most testing of circumstances,” Dr. Singh said.
Overall economic growth, according to the Senior Minister, was supported by strong expansion in oil and gas activities, and sustained growth across non-oil sectors.
Non-oil sector growth, Dr. Singh said, was driven primarily by advancements in agriculture, mining, construction and services.
