Two-year-old drowns on Christmas Day

POLICE in Regional Division #2 are investigating a drowning incident which occurred on Thursday, December 25, between 02:15 hours and 02:30 hours at Grant Atlas, Lower Pomeroon River, Essequibo, resulting in the death of Zoria Seegobin, a two-year-four-month-old of Friendship, East Bank Demerara.
Police Headquarters revealed that the child was staying with relatives at the said address for the Christmas holiday. In the early hours of Christmas Day, she was discovered missing from the home and was subsequently found submerged in a nearby trench.
She was transported by relatives to Charity, where police ranks escorted her to the Charity Cottage Hospital. She was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who pronounced her dead. The body was later taken to the Suddie Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
