Dear Editor,
AS the year comes to an end and with the new year fast approaching, the Founder and Chairman of BK Int’l/BK Group of Companies, Mr Brian Tiwarie, OMC, AA. wishes his staff, fellow Guyanese and the leaders of Guyana, especially His Excellency, Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Prime Minister Brigadier (ret’d) Mark Phillips, Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo and the entire cabinet a merry Christmas and a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year.
Mr Tiwarie or BK as he is often called, has acknowledged that 2025 has been a very good and successful year for Bk Group of Companies, and he is confident that there will be greater success in 2026 and future years. Founded almost forty years ago, BK Int’l was single-handedly managed and run by Brian Tiwarie or BK. However, Mr Ray Isaacs, his understudy and Chief Lieutenant, not only stood by his side but also with the company through good and bad times. As the Chief Operations Manager of BK Group of Companies, Ray Isaacs has seen the progress made by the company over the years. He has and continues to be involved in every aspect of the company and has done a remarkable job, and has never shied away from his responsibilities.
With unwavering and loyal support and steadfast assistance from his children, sons-in-law and daughter-in-law, and hundreds of dedicated and trusted employees, BK Int’l has grown and expanded rapidly with the addition of several other companies, such JAGS Aviation Services, BK Security, BK Quarries and BK Maritime Inc., among others. Today, BK Int’l Group of Companies remains the leading and best privately owned major company in the country, and its services are second to none. But the driving force behind such success is none other than its gifted, energetic and inspired founder and Chairman, Mr Brian Tiwarie. A straight talker and a down-to-earth and practical in nature, BK who is a problem solver, has always instilled in his employees that hard work will lead to their success.
Over the years, BK International has built or been involved in numerous projects across the country. Some of the key road projects built by BK Int’l include: the West Coast Demerara Road, which was a joint venture with a Jamaican firm for the improvement of approximately 30.7 km of the West Coast Demerara Road from Vreed-en-Hoop to Hydronie, and the East Bank Demerara Public Road Expansion, among others. The company has built numerous infrastructural projects throughout Guyana, including sea defences across different regions of the country, bridges, and stellings such as the Supenaam Roll on-Roll off Ferry Stelling.
One of the largest projects ever undertaken by BK Int’l was the rehabilitation of the Torani Canal in 2010, which was built during the British colonial era. The Torani Canal, which is 14 miles long and situated in Northeastern Guyana, serves to transfer water from the higher elevation along the Berbice River into the Canje Creek to irrigate the backlands of the Black Bush Polder rice industry and to maintain the water levels needed for the sugar industry. Based on several reports, BK Int’l has done an excellent job in rebuilding and restoring the Torani Canal, which has become the lifeline for agriculture (rice, sugar and cash crops) in East Berbice.
The prominent businessman and the country’s leading contractor, who is considered a genius, has laid the groundwork to build a massive $2.6 billion aircraft terminal at the Bartica Airport. According to the skillful, talented and wise businessman, Mr Tiwarie, the goal of such a huge investment is to transform the region, reshape the country’s aviation landscape and improve the quality of life for the Bartica township.
Expected to be completed by November 22, 2027, the aircraft terminal will feature commercial spaces, restaurants, cafés, 150 hotel-style rooms, medical service areas, a pharmacy, a bank and full aviation facilities. It will also accommodate international flights and support the direct movement of passengers and cargo from the interior to the coastal land and overseas destinations.
Finally, Mr Brian Tiwari, who is an exceptionally kind and generous business mogul and known for his virtuous character, is of the firm belief that trust must be earned, truth is non-negotiable, and integrity should not be compromised. He also believes that there are no secrets to success. It is the result of careful preparation, hard work and learning from failure.
Sincerely,
Dr. Asquith Rose
