Concrete works are now underway on the new 4,000ft × 80ft runway at the Matthews Ridge airstrip. It is being built
entirely by community labour with the full support of the Ministry of Public Works. This upgrade will result in safer,
more reliable air transport for the Matarkai sub-district, with Phase One on track for completion by January 30, 2026
