MINISTER of Home Affairs, Oneidge Walrond, on Monday, held her first official engagement with the leadership of the National Community Policing Group (CPG), meeting with Head of the body, Mr. Reshi Das, and Liaison Officers representing all ten administrative regions. The meeting formed part of the CPG’s monthly forum to review progress, discuss activities, and address challenges faced by members across the country.
Also present were Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Andre Ally, and Deputy Permanent Secretary, Mr. Dwayne Adams.
Minister Walrond’s action signals the government’s continuing emphasis on strengthening community policing as a core pillar of its citizen security strategy.
Community policing has long been recognised as an effective way of bridging the gap between law enforcement and residents, particularly in rural and hinterland communities where formal police presence may be limited.
The meeting comes at a time when Guyana is experiencing rapid social and economic changes linked to its growing oil economy. Officials underscored that maintaining safe communities is essential to ensuring development is inclusive and sustainable.
