POLICE ranks from Regional Divisions 4A and 4B, on Tuesday morning, arrested a 47-year-old businessman after he was allegedly found with an unlicensed firearm and ammunition during an intelligence-led operation.
The suspect, Freeman Fordyce of Lot 97 Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara, was seated in the driver’s seat of motor car PAH 6733 around 07:50 hrs when police approached and informed him of their intention to conduct a search of the vehicle for arms, ammunition, and narcotics.
During the search, officers discovered a 9mm pistol along with a magazine containing five matching rounds in the glove compartment. When asked if he was the holder of a firearm licence, Fordyce admitted that he was not.
He was immediately cautioned, informed of the offences, and taken into custody. The businessman reportedly remained silent during the arrest. He was escorted to the Providence Police Station, where the weapon was dusted for fingerprints as part of the ongoing probe.
Fordyce is currently assisting investigators with their inquiries.
